DAY 1: ...... (LIMA) /
IQUITOS /
PACAYA
SAMIRIA AMAZON LODGE (L-D)
-
We start our
adventure through the Peruvian jungle at the airport in Iquitos, we travel
to the town of Nauta, the first town founded by the Spanish on the banks of
the Marañon River; the trip takes about 1.30 hours with a distance of 97 km.

In Nauta we
board Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge boats to visit the confluence of the
Ucayali and Marañon Rivers, Ucamara (the source of the Amazon River), then
we continue the journey to the Lodge.

Pacaya Samiria
Amazon Lodge you will receive a warm welcome with a seasonal fruit drink,
they will invite us to go to our rooms to leave the luggage and then have
lunch.
-
In the afternoon
we will go for a walk of interpretation of flora and fauna in Restinga
forest surrounding the Lodge, we return by night tour to try to locate the
demdrobates tiny frogs characterized by their bright colors and poisonous
peculiarity, some of the famous hylas species due to changing colors
experienced during the day and night.

We go back to
the Lodge so we can have time for personal hygiene, dinner and overnight.
DAY 2:
PACAYA
SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE / LODGE (B-L-D)

After breakfast
we go to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, with cold lunch on board,
Nauta Caño zone where we register and enter the reserve.
-
In our visit we
make an excursion searching for pink and gray dolphins by the gorge of the
same name, we will also be in touch with the immense variety of flora and
fauna the reserve offers.
The first thing that will call our attention is the river water that
reflects the sky with such a fidelity, the clouds, the streamside vegetation
and large trees, that the visitors have the feeling of sailing between
endless mirrors, so Pacaya Samiria is also known as “the forest of mirrors”.

We will also go
for a walk of interpretation of flooded forests, where we will try to see
some primates and sloths, during the journey we can identify the variety of
birds and experience a traditional fishing practice with the material used
by the Amazonian man for subsistence.

Immediately
after the Full Day in the Reserve we go back to the Lodge, to visit the
women’s crafts center (temporary) of San Jorge community, known for their
work in natural fiber (Chambira).

In the afternoon
we leave by boat on the Marañon River bound for Cocha Shiriyacu where we
will do fishing activities and hope to see landscapes with the best sunsets
which can be seen in this area of flooded forest. In the Lodge, we can have
time for personal hygiene, dinner.

After dinner the
Guide will invite us to move to other room to share myths and legends of the
Peruvian Amazon.
Overnight.
DAY 3: HIKING IN HIGH RESTINGA / LODGE (B-L-D)

After breakfast we
go hiking through Restinga jungle with cold lunch returning at about noon, where
we can see a variety of timber, a variety of birds native to this forest, we
will try to see some primates and mammals until we arrive to a rustic camp to
rest in hammocks and if you dare enjoy the refreshing water of a high gorge,
where the Guide will explain about the importance of its existence and the role
it plays in the ecosystems.

In the afternoon you
have time to rest and then the program “An afternoon meeting with the world view
of the Amazonian man” with respect to ayahuasca and the medicinal plants.

Dinner and
overnight.
DAY 4:
PACAYA
SAMIRIA AMAZON LODGE / IQUITOS (B-L)

Immediately after we
leave by boat on the Marañon River bound for another area of the Pacaya Samiria
National Reserve (Cocha San Jacinto) where we will be attended by a group of
communal surveillance working on the Paiche protection (The biggest fish in
freshwater in the world) we may go canoeing along the Cocha with them. They will
tell us about their work and show us how to identify this species in its own
habitat, we can also see the famous aquatic plants, ”Victorias Regias”, where
the Guide will explain about their peculiarities. When returning we will enjoy
the landscape that surrounds us.

Upon arrival to the
Lodge we can have time for personal hygiene and we begin our return to the
airport or Iquitos according to the itinerary of the guest.

This program can
vary due to weather conditions.
Climate: The climate in the Reserve is tropical, warm and humid with
minimum temperatures of 72º F (22º C) and maximum temperatures that can reach up
to 88º F (28º C), except for the month of June in which the temperature can drop
abruptly due to the action of the cold fronts that come from the Argentinean
Patagonia. Generally, dawns and nights in the jungle tend to be fresh. It can
rain on any day of the year, being showers more frequent between the months of
February and May.

Vaccinations: It is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever;
however it is not mandatory.

- Long-sleeve shirts, preferably of neutral colors.
- Sweatshirts.
- Swimsuit.
- Hiking boots.
- Raincoat.
- Cap or hat.
- Sunglasses.

- Sunscreen lotion.
- Mosquito repellent with 35% DEET.
- Personal medicines.
- We recommend to bring one piece of luggage and to limit its weight to 15
kg (32 pounds).
